Brno, the Czech Republic’s second-largest city, offers a rich cultural mix and many fascinating sights. The capital of Moravia is a beautiful and charming place that still retains a small-town feel. Náměstí Svobody, or Freedom Square, is the city’s main square. It’s a delightful place for a stroll or to sit with a drink at one of the many cafés while you watch the world go by. The square’s original appearance changed significantly after major redevelopment at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, when several buildings were rebuilt in the Neo-Renaissance style. Its dominant feature is the Baroque Plague Column dating from 1679. Charming Brno is an important tourist hub for anyone wishing to explore the natural and cultural treasures of the South Moravian region. Today, Brno is home to universities and major judicial institutions, and it offers a wide range of cultural experiences in its many theaters, museums, cinemas, and clubs.
