West Java Indonesia

West Java is a province of Indonesia located in the western part of the island of Java, with its capital in Bandung. It is bordered by the province of Banten and Indonesia’s capital region of Jakarta to the west, the Java Sea to the north, Central Java province to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south. Together with Banten, this province is the native homeland of the Sundanese people, the second-largest ethnic group in Indonesia. West Java was one of the first eight provinces of Indonesia formed following the country’s proclamation of independence and was later legally re-established on July 14, 1950. In 1966, the city of Jakarta was separated from West Java as a Special Capital Region (Daerah Khusus Ibukota), with a status equivalent to a province, and in 2000 the western parts of West Java were split off to create the separate province of Banten.
